The 2010-2011 class of Leadership Santa Barbara County (LSBC) will continue the organization’s class project tradition by showing its commitment to supporting a local non-profit organization. This year’s class is partnering with Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara. The addition of the class project component came as a result of the LSBC Board’s reflection on how better to contribute meaningfully and tangibly in the community.
At the Girls Inc. Goleta Valley Center, LSBC will create a sustainable garden including planter beds, fruit trees, and rows for planting. This space will also feature an outdoor learning structure suitable for holding classes. Additionally, LSBC is coordinating a mural project with the girls at the organization’s Santa Barbara Center.
Throughout the year the class will work side by side with Girls Inc. to complete this in-depth project. The scope of work is determined by the class as members develop, plan, and execute the effort before a May graduation event. The May topic day unveils the project to the public.
